One of the most recent recipes that went viral on the social media sphere is lemon pasta–courtesy of Emily Mariko (yes, the same person that was behind the whole TikTok Salmon Rice bowl craze last year!).

But it’s no surprise as to why it’s been getting a lot of love. A variation of the traditional Italian dish, pasta al limone, it’s a simple recipe requiring only a handful of ingredients that can easily be found in your pantry or fridge.

Garlic Lemon Pasta with Mushroom

As a certified garlic girl, I knew I wanted to incorporate as much of the ingredient into this dish. So inspired by one of my favorite pasta dishes, Aglio E Olio, I used a lot of garlic and chili flakes in this recipe.

When it comes to adding toppings to pasta, I feel like you can never go wrong with mushrooms. However, feel free to change it up with your choice of protein by adding chicken or shrimp to your pasta!

Ingredients

  • Butter
  • Button mushrooms
  • Olive oil
  • Garlic
  • Pasta: I used pappardelle, but other ones such as spaghetti, linguine, and angel hair pasta are great options as well.
  • Chili flakes
  • Lemon juice
  • Pasta water
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Parsley
  • Parmesan cheese

(For full ingredient measurements, please proceed to the recipe card below.)

Instructions

  1. Add butter to a pan over medium heat and let it melt. Add mushroom and lightly season with salt and pepper. Sauté and let it cook until it browns (3-4 minutes) and remove from the pan.
  2. Boil pasta according to package instructions.
  3. In the same pan that you cook the mushroom, turn heat down to medium low and pour in olive oil. Add garlic and chili flakes. Let it cook and stir occasionally for at least 10 minutes until before it turns golden brown.
  4. Turn the heat down to low and add pasta water, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt and sugar. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  5. Add pasta and mushrooms. Mix until well combined. Serve with a parsley and parmesan cheese. Enjoy!

Notes for Garlic Mushroom Lemon Pasta

  • Adjust accordingly: Adjust the amount of garlic, chili flakes and seasoning based on your preference.
  • Mushroom seasoning: Season the mushroom to taste. I seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder and dried rosemary.
  • Glossy pasta: For extra glossiness, add 1 tbsp of butter and mix until it melts.

Hi! Sorry about that, just edited the recipe. It’s added in before the garlic and chili flakes in step 3. 🙂

The 1/2 cup olive oil is not listed in the instructions anywhere. Not sure what to do with it. Also, it seems like a lot of oil!

Hi! Ahh, sorry about that. Just fixed it. The olive oil is meant to be poured in before the garlic and chili flakes in step 3. As for the amount of oil, if it’s too much you can try to start with 1/4 cup. 🙂

The best pizza in the city where pizza was invente The best pizza in the city where pizza was invented @farahjeats 🍕
📍Pizzeria Da Michele, Naples, Italy
📍 Pizzeria D’angeli, Naples, Italy
We got pizza from one of the oldest pizzerias in Naples, Italy and it didn’t disappoint. We got there right when it opened and there was already a line. We ended up getting the pizzas to-go and ate it on the hood of our rental car. Each box of pizza was only €5 and we got every item on the menu (it was only a 4 item menu anyway 😂). While waiting in line, the smell of the wood fired pizza was sooo good we were so hungry by the time we got our orders. We got pizzas from across the street too just to compare. There was no line at that restaurant and you could easily get a table. It was a little bit more expensive per pizza but still affordable. Both pizzas were delicious! Still dreaming about it till this day 🥲
Fun fact: Eat, Pray, Love was filmed at Pizzeria Da Michele!

Mee (mie) goreng, a quick and easy stir fried noodles recipe that’s great for lunch or dinner. Popular in Malaysia and neighboring countries like Indonesia and Singapore— with each country having their own version of it. Chewy noodles infused with spicy, tangy and savory flavors, and ready within 30 minutes!
This is definitely not an authentic recipe but a simplified version that my mother-in-law makes often and now a recipe that I make quite a lot for a quick breakfast using ingredients easily accessible to us here. It definitely hits the spot! Feel free to add protein of your choice to this dish or just add a fried egg on top!
I’ll work on an authentic Malaysian mee goreng recipe and share soon ☺️

Ramadan recipe #21 Rendang Ayam (Dry Chicken Cocon Ramadan recipe #21 Rendang Ayam (Dry Chicken Coconut Curry) @farahjeats
Save and share this flavorful and delicious recipe!
Ending my Ramadan series with one of the best dishes. This is a dish that’s traditionally served during Eid/Raya in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. Every family usually has their own version of this. It’s usually served with nasi impit (cubed rice), lemang or pulut kuning (turmeric glutinous rice) but also just as good with white rice.
Making this is a truly a labor of love especially when you make big batches. It can take hours! Families will cook this the night before Eid so the dish will be ready in time for the big celebration. The whole house will usually smell like rendang when this is made and honestly, one of the best smells that reminds me of such great and fond memories.
This month just flew by— thanks so much for tuning in. I’ll be back with my usual twice a week recipes starting next week 💛
