easy refreshing mango smoothie with milk (mango susu) recipe

As big time mango fans, my husband and I tremendously enjoy the variety of desserts and beverages that contain said fruit as its star ingredient. Some of our favorites include Thai Mango Sticky Rice, mango bingsu (Korean shaved ice dessert), and this delicious mango smoothie.

In Malaysia, you can easily get mango smoothies from roadside stalls, night markets and bazaars. The drink is known as “mangga susu”, which literally translates to “mango (with) milk”. And it’s so refreshing to have on a hot’s summers day — that is to say, all year round in Malaysia!

Easy Mango Smoothie

To make this smoothie, it requires only a handful of ingredients: mango, milk, condensed milk, and lime juice. Yes, it really is that simple!

Ingredients

  • Frozen mango cubes: I like to use frozen mango as that is what’s usually easily available to me. It’s also really convenient to just store in the freezer, and take them out whenever I want to make a smoothie. But you can also use fresh ripe mangoes (that are peeled and diced) and add some ice before you blend.
  • Milk: This is what makes the smoothie deliciously creamy, be it dairy or dairy-free. I used whole milk.
  • Condensed milk: In Malaysia, we love our condensed milk. It’s a go-to sweetener for drinks such as Milo or pulled milk tea (teh tarik). You can try to substitute it with sugar, honey, or agave nectar.
  • Lime/lemon juice: A bit of lime or lemon juice gives the perfect hint of tartness to the drink.

(For full ingredient measurements, please proceed to the recipe card below.)

Instructions

  1. Set aside 1/3 cup of the frozen mangoes and blend all the other ingredients until smooth (see notes).
  2. Pour into a glass and add frozen mangoes on top. Enjoy!

Notes for Mango Smoothie with Milk (Mangga Susu)

  • Condensed milk and lime juice: The amount of condensed milk and lime used should be up to your preference and the sweetness of your mango.
  • Making ahead: This drink is best served immediately.

Ramadan recipe #5 Burrata Bruschetta with Tomatoes Ramadan recipe #5 Burrata Bruschetta with Tomatoes @farahjeats
Save and share this recipe! I am obsessed with this one. During restaurant week, Mike and I went to a place that served the most amazing bruschetta. So of course I had to recreate it at home but with my own twist.
I love roasted garlic so decided to add that instead of just rubbing fresh garlic cloves on top of toasted bread. I’ve also seen people add burrata and decided to try that and was instantly sold. Just don’t make the same mistake I did by forgetting to take out your burrata from the fridge ahead of time but I was chasing daylight so I had to make do 🥲 also, if you can’t find/don’t have burrata— just shred fresh mozzarella and mix it with heavy cream and a bit of salt to get stacciatella (the creamy inside of the burrata).
ANYWAY, I loved this so much I made it 3 days in a row 🥹 it’s a lot easier than it looks and I hope you like it!

Ramadan recipe #4 Creamy Tom Yum Inspired Udon @fa Ramadan recipe #4 Creamy Tom Yum Inspired Udon @farahjeats
Save and share this quick and easy recipe. If you love Tom Yum, you’ll love this one!
I originally set out to recreate the Tom Yum Udon from FamilyMart back in Malaysia but didn’t have certain ingredients to complete the experience. I also felt like eating something creamy and so that led me to this particular recipe. I was going to use heavy cream but coconut milk made this even better (you can definitely use heavy cream instead if you’re not a fan of coconut flavored things). So maybe this udon is actually a mix between Tom Yum and Tom Khai Ghai which are two Thai soups that I absolutely love so I’d consider this recipe a winner ☺️
Tom Yum has a special place in my heart too because it’s definitely a must order for me and my family if we get Thai food. Safe to say, this udon recipe has been a repeat in my house the past few weeks and will definitely be part of our rotation this Ramadan 💛

Ramadan recipe #3 15-Minutes Egg Drop Soup with “crab” sticks @farahjeats
Growing up, no matter how hot Malaysia is— we’ll always have soup at least once a week. Mostly a weekly request from my dad and something he looks forward to. So my mom will make different kinds of soups weekly.
Now I associate soups as something comforting and the best pick me up. This is an easy and quick go to soup recipe for my house. It’s always a crowd pleaser too! Definitely making this more often during Ramadan ♥️
Although not traditional, I like seasoning with fish sauce because of the flavor it adds to the soup but feel free to skip and use soy sauce or salt instead.

Ramadan recipe #2 Cookie Dough Baked Oatmeal @fara Ramadan recipe #2 Cookie Dough Baked Oatmeal @farahjeats
Save and share this recipe! This was inspired by the viral recipe created by @callascleaneats.
This cookie dough baked oatmeal will be perfect for suhoor or as a healthy breakfast if you’re not fasting. I made this a lot the past few months for Mike’s breakfast and he loves it. I’m definitely planning to make this the night before and heat it up for our suhoor once Ramadan starts.
In the original viral recipe, she used a banana but I don’t like bananas. So I used medjool dates instead. More details on this on my site.

Ramadan recipe #1: Malaysian-style Soy Sauce Chick Ramadan recipe #1: Malaysian-style Soy Sauce Chicken (ayam masak kicap) @farahjeats
Save and share this easy and delicious chicken recipe. If you enjoyed my Malaysian style soy sauce eggs, you’ll absolutely love this one!
This fried chicken simmered in a savory and slightly sweet sauce is great on its own and so SO good with rice. It’s a family favorite especially among my nieces and nephews!
This dish is quite popular in neighboring countries too although it may be slightly different. There are so many variations of this dish with each family having their own take on it. This is a version of the dish that I’ve been making a lot over the years because of how easy and simple it is.
Some recipes add potatoes to this dish too but I like keeping it simple.
For the sauce it’s sweet soy sauce, light soy sauce, oyster sauce, curry powder and rice vinegar. Full measurements with detailed instructions on my site!

One of the last meals my mom made for me before I flew back to Chicago was this fragrant coconut rice and rendang ayam. Rendang is basically a spicy dry coconut curry. Sometimes my mom uses beef but for this particular recipe, she used chicken. It can take hours to make especially if you use beef so that the meat is extra soft and tender. I like recreating recipes like this when I’m feeling homesick and to feel closer to my mom and family.
So this Ramadan, on top of easy recipes that I know you’ll love— I’ll also be sharing recipes that have a special place in my heart Mondays - Fridays. First recipe goes live this Monday. Stay tuned ☺️💛

Karaage Don (Japanese Fried Chicken Rice Bowl) @fa Karaage Don (Japanese Fried Chicken Rice Bowl) @farahjeats
Save and share this delicious recipe! It’s such a simple but perfect meal that anyone will love. The fried chicken is light and crispy and goes well with seasoned rice and the spicy mayo sauce. I usually like ordering this at Japanese restaurants but I prefer making this at home so I can eat as many of the karaage as I want 😆
Traditionally made with mirin and/or sake, this karaage recipe is alcohol free.
