These Rice Paper Dumplings are having their glory moment right now on social media. With it being a scrumptious dish that’s also gluten-free, I can definitely see why!

Rice Paper Dumplings Recipe

As opposed to the traditional dumplings that’s wrapped with flour-based dough, you substitute the wrapper with rice paper. And once you pan fry the dumplings, it gives you that delicious crispy bite.

The filling I’m sharing with you is super simple to prepare but gives you a savory and deeply flavorful dish. The best part about dumplings is that you can play around with the fillings and experiment with different ones if you’d like! Mix any choice of veggies and/or protein to make your desired combo.

Ingredients You’ll Need

(For full ingredient measurements, please proceed to the recipe card below.)

  • Rice paper
  • Ground beef
  • Aromatics: Garlic, cilantro, green onion & ginger
  • Light soy sauce
  • Rice vinegar
  • Sugar
  • Pepper
  • Carrots
  • Dipping Sauce: Chili oil, light soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, sugar, green onions (optional) & sesame seeds (optional)
    • Chili oil: I use my homemade chili oil.

Instructions

Filling

  1. Mix all the ingredients for the filling except for carrots. Set aside for at least 15 minutes.
  2. In a pan over medium heat, add 2 tbsp of neutral oil and sauté carrots for 2 minutes before adding the seasoned filling.
  3. Stir occasionally until fully cooked.

Folding

  1. Once the cooked filling has cooled down, soak rice paper in warm water for 5-10 seconds.
  2. Place 2.5 tbsp of the filling at the center of the rice paper.
  3. Fold the top part towards the middle. Then fold the right side inwards followed by the left. Then fold over the whole thing over the bottom part.
  4. Repeat the process with another layer of rice paper wrapping the already wrapped dumpling.

Pan Fry

  1. In a pan over medium heat, heat up neutral oil. Use enough oil to coat the pan.
  2. Once it’s hot enough, add the rice paper dumplings folded side down.
  3. Optional step: Gently press down the dumplings with a spatula for even cooking.
  4. Shallow fry until it’s golden brown on each side.

Dipping Sauce

  1. Mix all the ingredients and serve with dumplings. Enjoy!

Notes for Rice Paper Dumplings

  • Soak Rice Paper – Soak them in warm water for about 5 seconds, or until it’s slightly softened, before starting the wrapping process. It will still continue the softening process after you take it out of the water. So try not to soak them for too long as the wrapper might break during assembling process or when pan frying.
  • Double sheets – Use 2 sheets of rice paper to make each dumpling so that it holds the filling better and won’t break. Crispy too!
  • Dipping sauce – You can make a simple dipping sauce with soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar and a bit of chili oil. Or if you’re a chili oil fiend like me, then heap on extra spoons of that chili oil.

For dumpling lovers, here’s a recipe for Chili Oil Dumplings that you have to try!

This is part of the Alphabet Weekly Dish Challenge from Instagram. I haven’t participated in the challenge for a few weeks (oops!), but here’s to jumping back in!

This recipe was amazing! All the flavours were well balanced. My family and I made 1 shrimp and 1 beef version and both turned out so well!

The best pizza in the city where pizza was invente The best pizza in the city where pizza was invented @farahjeats 🍕
📍Pizzeria Da Michele, Naples, Italy
📍 Pizzeria D’angeli, Naples, Italy
We got pizza from one of the oldest pizzerias in Naples, Italy and it didn’t disappoint. We got there right when it opened and there was already a line. We ended up getting the pizzas to-go and ate it on the hood of our rental car. Each box of pizza was only €5 and we got every item on the menu (it was only a 4 item menu anyway 😂). While waiting in line, the smell of the wood fired pizza was sooo good we were so hungry by the time we got our orders. We got pizzas from across the street too just to compare. There was no line at that restaurant and you could easily get a table. It was a little bit more expensive per pizza but still affordable. Both pizzas were delicious! Still dreaming about it till this day 🥲
Fun fact: Eat, Pray, Love was filmed at Pizzeria Da Michele!

Mee (mie) goreng, a quick and easy stir fried noodles recipe that’s great for lunch or dinner. Popular in Malaysia and neighboring countries like Indonesia and Singapore— with each country having their own version of it. Chewy noodles infused with spicy, tangy and savory flavors, and ready within 30 minutes!
This is definitely not an authentic recipe but a simplified version that my mother-in-law makes often and now a recipe that I make quite a lot for a quick breakfast using ingredients easily accessible to us here. It definitely hits the spot! Feel free to add protein of your choice to this dish or just add a fried egg on top!
I’ll work on an authentic Malaysian mee goreng recipe and share soon ☺️

Save and share this flavorful and delicious recipe!
Ending my Ramadan series with one of the best dishes. This is a dish that’s traditionally served during Eid/Raya in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. Every family usually has their own version of this. It’s usually served with nasi impit (cubed rice), lemang or pulut kuning (turmeric glutinous rice) but also just as good with white rice.
Making this is a truly a labor of love especially when you make big batches. It can take hours! Families will cook this the night before Eid so the dish will be ready in time for the big celebration. The whole house will usually smell like rendang when this is made and honestly, one of the best smells that reminds me of such great and fond memories.
This month just flew by— thanks so much for tuning in. I’ll be back with my usual twice a week recipes starting next week 💛
