Delicious Snack
I have my fair share of cravings when it comes to food that I like to snack on while watching Kdramas, and rabokki ranks among the top of the list.
It’s a delicious and effortless dish that takes only 20 minutes to put together, making it the perfect addition to your weeknight dinner rotations or quick meal needs!
what is rabokki?
Rabokki is a popular Korean street snack, made from the combination of tteokbokki (rice cakes), and ramen (instant ramyeon). The dish is often jazzed up further with toppings like hard boiled eggs, fish cakes, and dumplings.
The sauce of the dish has a spicy and sweet flavor thanks to the addition of gochujang, which is a Korean condiment of red chili paste.
Samyang Instant Noodle
For this recipe, I used Samyang’s Carbonara Noodles, which is a personal favorite. It has a creamy and spicy taste that melds amazingly well with the tteokbokki and gochujang to make this rabokki dish.
I always opt to top it off with some cheese, as it helps cut a bit of the spiciness as well.

Ingredients You’ll Need
(For full ingredient measurements, please proceed to the recipe card below.)
- Water
- Samyang carbo noodles
- Tteokbokki/rice cakes
- Gochujang
- Light soy sauce
- Sugar
- Green onions white and green separated
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Toasted sesame seeds (to garnish)
How To Make Spicy Rabokki (Ramen and Tteokbokki)
- Soak the tteokbokki in a bowl of cold water for at least 5 minutes before cooking. Slice the white parts of the green onions lengthwise and dice the green parts.
- Pour the water into a pan and bring to a boil. Once boiling, add the noodles and tteokbokki.
- After about 2 minutes, add gochujang, light soy sauce, sugar and sliced white part of the green onions. Lightly stir so the gochujang dissolves.
- After about 3-4 minutes, add the rest of the seasoning packets and stir. Let it cook for another minute or until the sauce has thickened up to your desired consistency. The longer you cook, the thicker the sauce.
- Turn off heat and add shredded cheese on top. Cover with a lid to let the cheese melt. Remove lid and garnish with sesame seeds and diced green onions. Optional: Serve with fried/pan fried dumplings and jammy eggs. Enjoy!

Notes for spicy rabokki (ramen and tteokbokki)
- I like my rabokki spicy so adjust the amount of gochujang and spicy seasoning packet accordingly. Same goes for the rest of the seasonings.
- The tteokbokki doesn’t have to be thawed if from the freezer. Just soak immediately in the water before cooking. Soaking it beforehand will ensure you get soft chewy tteokbokki.
- I’m not a fan of fish cakes but if you are, add sliced fish cakes in before you season with gochujang and the rest.
- If the sauce gets too thick for your liking, add a bit of water and season accordingly.
