Quick Asian Noodles

Here’s an easy stir fry recipe with noodles that you can add to your quick weeknight meals rotation. And it comes together within 15 minutes by just using pantry staples!

I make it at least once a week with different types of noodles because my toddler gobbles it up every time.

Even though I call it soy sauce stir fry noodles, the sauce actually has two main ingredients: sweet soy sauce (aka kecap manis) and oyster sauce. Add to that the onion, garlic, and lime juice, and it creates a delicious dish that’s savory, slightly sweet, and a little tangy.

Ingredients For Soy Sauce Stir Fried Noodles

(For full ingredient measurements, please proceed to the recipe card below.)

Noodles

Wondering what type of noodles to use? Wheat based noodles are best for this simple stir fry. These include yellow noodles, egg noodles, lo mein, or even udon.

Wheat based noodles work great for this dish as they have a nice, chewy texture, they tend to soak up the sauces and flavors really well, and they don’t easily break apart while cooking.

Oyster Sauce

Adds umami and saltiness to the dish. You can also swap it out with a vegan oyster sauce.

Sweet Soy Sauce (Kecap Manis)

This is the secret ingredient that helps to elevate the dish easily. Sweet soy sauce, also known as kecap manis, is an Indonesian condiment that’s thick, syrupy, and sweet. It’s also widely used in other Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia and Singapore.

You can also use this sauce to make a simple and quick fried rice (nasi goreng).

Protein and Vegetables

I usually like to add thinly sliced beef, together with sliced bokchoy and cabbage. But you can easily customize this to your liking! Some examples:

Protein: Chicken, shrimp, tofu
Vegetables: Carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, bell peppers, snap peas, bean sprouts, baby corns

Lime Juice

This can be optional, but I highly recommend it. Lime juice cuts through the slight sweetness and richness of the dish, and provides a balance that makes the flavors pop.

Spicy Add Ons

Serve with some chili oil or pickled jalapeño (known as cili jeruk) on the side for the perfect amount of heat.

Notes For Quick Asian Stir Fried Noodles

  • How to cook stir fry noodles with chicken: If using chicken or a protein that takes longer to cook, I recommend cooking it as a first step. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper then remove when it’s 80% cooked. Add it back before the noodles to finish cooking.
  • How to cook eggs with stir fry noodles: If using eggs for protein, push the onions and garlic to one side before adding beaten eggs into the pan. Once 80% cooked, mix everything together.
  • Lime juice: Adding lime juice at the end is optional but highly recommended to balance out the flavor. Please adjust to taste.
