Spicy Garlic Butter Pasta

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

If there’s anything that I like as much as rice, it’s got to be pasta. Whether it’s in a thick creamy pasta sauce like carbonara or in a simple aglio olio, I will never say no to pasta. I pride myself in trying a lot of different dishes at restaurants but when there’s a selection of pasta on the menu, I will always go with pasta. Anyone else like me?

ASIAN FUSION WITH A KICK

Over the years and after a lot of experimenting in the kitchen with pasta recipes, I finally did it. I made the perfect pasta recipe that fuses the things I love and my asian side in one recipe. It’s buttery, rich in garlic flavor (which I love!), and has just enough of a spicy kick to it. It might not be the most traditional pasta recipe, but give it a chance. You will not be disappointed. 🙂

I’ve made a lot of pasta dishes the past few years and this is easily my husband’s favorite. This spicy garlic butter pasta is also super easy and foolproof. So if you’re new to cooking and would like to try out a different kind of pasta dish, definitely give this a go. You’ll have your guests lining up for seconds.

So it makes sense that this well loved recipe is next in my 5 Butter Based Recipes for 5 Days series (in celebration of BTS’ new single release Butter). I hope you enjoy it as much as we do in my house and let me know how it goes!

NOTES

Adjust the amount of garlic used to your heart’s content. I personally believe there’s no such thing as too much garlic, so adjust it to your personal preference.

If you’re not a fan of spicy food, you can omit the chilli flakes/oil.

Total Time25 mins
Course: Main Course
Keyword: asian fusion, delicious, dinner, easy, lunch, main course, pasta
Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 1/2 box pasta
  • 6 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 green onion (minced)
  • 1.5 tbsp butter (2 tbsp if using chilli flakes)
  • 1 tbsp chilli flakes/chilli oil
  • 2.5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2.5 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp parmesan

Instructions

  • Mince the garlic and green onion. Set aside.
  • Add soy sauce, oyster sauce and sugar to a bowl and mix well for the sauce.
  • Cook the pasta according to the package instructions. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining the pasta.
  • Add butter and chilli oil to pan on medium low heat.
  • Once butter melts, add garlic and green onion. Save some green onions for garnishing. Add the chilli flakes as well if you didn't use chilli oil.
  • Sauté everything in the pan for a few minutes until garlic is lightly golden. Careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Add the boiled pasta to the pan and the sauce.
  • Mix everything well and add parmesan. If too dry, add a bit of the pasta water so that every strand of pasta is coated with the sauce and parmesan.
  • Add green onions for garnishing and enjoy!

Notes

*If you’re not a fan of spicy food, you can choose to omit the chilli oil and chilli flakes.
*Adjust the amount of garlic and chilli oil/chilli flakes to your preference. I love both so the more, the better 🙂

Dry Chili Pan Mee and Malaysian Style Honey Chicke Dry Chili Pan Mee and Malaysian Style Honey Chicken Wings (recipe coming soon) for lunch yesterday. I used my favorite oyster sauce that I have loved and used for years from @leekumkeeusa for both dishes.
Oyster sauce is one of my kitchen staples and it gives the perfect umami flavor to any dish. I use it a lot for marinating, stir frying and as a sauce ingredient. Ever since I started cooking, I've always used the oyster sauce from @leekumkeeusa . My family uses this too! So I'm so excited to be collaborating with them on this ☺ They sent over a few bottles together with super cute Lee Kum Kee goodies!
You can find the full recipe for the Dry Chili Pan Mee if you search it on my website. Link in bio.

My love language is quality time. Like everyone My love language is quality time.
Like everyone else, we weren’t able to see people as much because of the pandemic. So now I cherish the times I spend with the people I love even more. Food has always been an integral part of that as well. Whenever we go out to meet people, we’re always meeting for breakfast, lunch or dinner. When we invite people over, I’m always cooking up a feast for them because I genuinely enjoy making food for others. I like to believe food is also my love language (although that’s not technically right, let me believe what I want to believe ok 😌).
As a foodie, I enjoy food a lot and LOVE trying new types of food. But I also love how food brings people together. The holiday season is always the best time in my opinion because of this. So I’m extremely excited for the next few weeks ☺️
Whatever your holidays may look like or what your love language is, I hope you’re able to take some time to slow down and appreciate the people around you. Don’t forget to take some time for self care as well and enjoy all the amazing food of course!

Salmon mentai 🍣 This is a must order for me w Salmon mentai 🍣
This is a must order for me when we go to Japanese restaurants back in Malaysia. It’s basically flame seared salmon with a creamy spicy mayo pollack roe sauce. It’s the best 🤤 Since they don’t serve this at Japanese restaurants here, I started making it myself at home. Either as a nigiri or rice bowl.
@culinaryjochef was kind enough to send me their Superior RX refillable blowtorch so I can make this and many other recipes 😍 I’ll be honest, I was scared at first 😆 my husband is usually the one doing these things for me. But the instructions were clear and detailed and it was so easy to use, I felt comfortable using it almost immediately. Swipe to see it in action and some salmon mentai goodness 🤤
It also comes as a bundle with a butane fuel so I don’t have to go out and look for one that fits. It comes with a free recipe ebook of so many foods you can make with their blowtorch. I highly recommend this, check them out.

Fried rice is one of the best meals in my opinion Fried rice is one of the best meals in my opinion because for such an easy dish, it’s so satisfying. I like my fried rice spicy so one of my fav recipes is this Chili Oil Spam Fried Rice. It’s easy, spicy and delicious.
For this particular one, I decided to swap out my chili oil for 1 tsp of @pepperexchange’s Red Habanero pepper puree and omg, it’s so good. Definitely hot but just the way I like it 😉

Miso Garlic Butter Salmon 😍 I’ve been making Miso Garlic Butter Salmon 😍
I’ve been making this a lot lately and we always have leftovers because I tend to cook like I’m feeding an army when it’s really just two and sometimes three people in this house 😂 not complaining though because although this salmon is so good with just white rice, it’s great for other things too. Like salad or for wraps! There’s a viral salmon rice food trend lately and this is so good for that too. However you eat it, this salmon recipe is definitely a must try 😍

Korean Fire Chicken with Cheese or Cheese Buldak 🥵 Swipe for some cheese pull action.
This hot and subtly sweet sauce chicken is so addictive! Add the cheese and it’s *chef’s kiss*
I had this a few weeks ago at a Korean restaurant and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It was served with white rice and it was so SO good. Mike and I got this to share but I’m pretty sure I ate like more than half 😂
Tried recreating it at home and after a few tries, I think I made the perfect buldak sauce but I could be biased 🤪 I like it really hot but you can adjust the heat level based on your preference. Try it for yourself and let me know what you think.

Chinese style Lemon Chicken 🍋 This is a favor Chinese style Lemon Chicken 🍋
This is a favorite of mine when we go to Chinese restaurants and it’s so easy to make at home! Although not as popular in the western food world as its sister dish the orange chicken, I think it’s just as good if not (dare I say it) better! It’s the perfect balance of sweet and tangy with every bite of the crispy chicken.
I like eating this with rice but it’s so good on its own too. Make this for your next meal 😋

Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp 🍤 This popular local H Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp 🍤
This popular local Hawaiian dish is definitely my kind of meal. It’s garlicky and flavorful— and made with just a few simple ingredients that you probably already have at home!
Usually cooked and eaten with the shell on and since it’s shallow fried, it makes the shell crispy. I personally love eating it this way but if you can always peel it off.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Shrimp
Corn starch
Paprika
Cayenne
Salt
Garlic
Butter
Lemon
