Here’s a simple recipe for some tender and juicy steak bites which can be enjoyed as a full meal or plainly as an appetizer. I love turning these bites into a main dish by having it with a side of white rice. But you can also opt to pair it with dishes like Sweet Potato Mash With Miso Butter, Air Fried Garlic Potato Wedges, or even some crispy bread!
There was a Teppanyaki place that I used to go to a lot in high school with my friends and/or family. Almost every weekend at one point, it was just THAT good. Although I haven’t been back there in awhile, I still think about the juicy delicious steak from time to time so I knew I had to recreate it at home for when that craving hits.
Steak bites are also a popular appetizer option for game nights, dinner parties, or family gatherings. Especially with kids! There have been plenty of times when sneaky little hands managed to polish off a plate full of these delicious morsels.
Teppanyaki Inspired Steak Bites
Teppanyaki is actually a Japanese cooking style where you use a flat iron griddle — known as the “teppan” — to cook food. “Yaki” means to grill, broil, or pan fry. So in Japan, anything that is cooked on a teppan, such as noodles, seafood, or meat, is called teppanyaki.
However, for an at-home cheat version, substituting with a flat iron skillet or even a frying pan would suffice.
The marinade for these steak bites is a sweet and savory teppanyaki sauce, which contains garlic, soy sauce, sugar, and pepper. In this recipe, there is no use of mirin or sake.

Ingredients
- Strip or ribeye steak
- Salt and pepper
Sauce
- Butter
- Garlic
- Light soy sauce
- Sugar
- Pepper
(For full ingredient measurements, please proceed to the recipe card below.)
Instructions
- Season your steak with salt and pepper then cut your steak into bite sized pieces (see notes).
- Add 2-3 tbsp of oil into your pan and heat it up over medium high heat. Once hot enough, add your bite sized steaks into the pan and leave it to cook for 1-2 minutes before flipping it over and letting it cook for another minute before removing the steak from the pan (see notes).
- Turn heat down to medium low and add butter. Once the butter melts, add the rest of the sauce ingredients and stir until well combined.
- Add the steak bites back into the pan to absorb the sauce and finish cooking (about 1-2 more minutes).
- Garnish with green onions and garlic chips and serve with white rice while hot. Enjoy!
Notes for Teppanyaki Style Steak Bites
- The bigger the cut of your steak bites, the longer it will take to cook.
- I like my steak medium but if you prefer it differently, cook for shorter or longer based on your preference.
